Andrew Duff was born in PNG and obtained secondary education at TSS. He started working life as a solicitor in Surfers Paradise and progressed to partner. At 27 he married Belinda and switched careers to banking where he has worked in the Eastern Australian States, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, UAE, Qatar and Oman. His job responsibilities saw him oversee banking businesses in over 30 countries from Europe and Africa through to Asia.

 

Andrew and Belinda have 2 daughters who are "world citizens". They have travelled to most parts of the globe for business or pleasure and look forward to travelling some more post COVID. Andrew's interests are couch surfing (so many channels), wine, golf, sport generally, Rotary and the family.

Mike Gosling is an executive educator and emotional intelligence behavioural coach. He was born in Suva, Fiji, in 1949 and came to live in Australia in 1974, becoming a citizen in 1976. He has lived in Fiji, Singapore, Sydney, Adelaide, and the Gold Coast.

 

Mike's PhD research with the University of South Australia explored the emotional intelligence of leaders in Singapore.

 

Since 1997, Mike has conducted his own executive leadership development coaching and cognitive-behavioral counselling practice, Gosling International, with his wife of 44 years and business partner, expert Marriage and ADHD Counsellor Karen Gosling, in Singapore and on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, serving more than 3,500 people from 87 nationalities.

 

In 2021 Mike & Karen formed their charity, FijiLIFE Foundation Limited, to serve the needs of the poor and disadvantaged people in Fiji. The charity has been approved by the ATO for DGR and charity tax concession status.

 

Mike says, "Being a Member of Rotary has helped increased my awareness to the world of service to change lives."

He has over twenty-five years of international market development and regulatory experience, and was a member of the ASEAN Business Forum, and was Federal Vice President of the Australian Small Business Association. He has served on the Boards of the Queensland University of Technology Business Advisory Committee, and their Centre for Satellite Navigation, and is currently completing a Research Masters degree in IT there. He has also served on the Board of the Griffith University Centre for Microwave Studies, and has founded and Chaired community service programs for youth leadership training, in association with Broadwater Southport Rotary.

 

James started his career as a one-man alarm installation business and over twenty years developed it into a group of security and technology companies that employed approximately two hundred employees and contractors, whilst operating one of the largest monitoring bureaus in Australia. He sold this group successfully and moved to Bermuda and the US for eleven years with his wife and children to develop other businesses, returning to Australia in 2008.

Howard Manning is now semi-retired and lives with his wife of 47 years, Julie, at Budds Beach.  He was born in Stanthorpe and spent the first 15 years of his life in that district before going to boarding school at Ipswich Grammar and then settling in Brisbane to start his working life.  Howard worked in the banking and insurance field for 33 years with the Suncorp Group during which time he obtained a Commerce degree from Griffith University.

 

Since 2009, Howard has operated his own business advisory / consulting business, working in areas as diverse as timber milling, superannuation, real estate, early childhood education and banking.  Howard was a keen cricketer in his earlier life having represented Queensland at primary and secondary school levels before playing first grade with South Brisbane Cricket Club.  He now enjoys playing golf.

• The Childs Play Project for the Spilstead Centre which is part of the Dalwood Home in Seaforth, Sydney. The centre caters for neglected and abused children of pre-school age. This project has been raising funds to cover the cost of speech therapy and child psychology since 2003. Therapy services such as these are very difficult to access through the government system. Spilstead is a world leader in providing such services.
• Various projects to assist SERES in Guatemala. The largest one of these is a Water Well Project which has received a Rotary Global Grant.

Vince Rehbein was raised on a sugar cane farm in Bundaberg and left school after Grade 10 (16 years of age) and started a cadetship as a structural steel draftsman with Evans Deakin in Brisbane. A year out of his time (1965) he and a friend started their own engineering drafting business. In 1975 he bought out his partner and when he sold the business in 2007 the company had 13 offices in 7 countries. His wife, Barbara (who is a dual citizen of USA and Australia) share their time between their homes on the Gold Coast and Phoenix, Arizona. 3 months here - 3 months there.

 

Vince has been a member of 3 Rotary Clubs (South Brisbane, Southport and Broadwater-Southport). He joined South Brisbane in 1975 and was President of that club in 1988/89 and served in all capacities of director except Treasurer and Secretary. South Brisbane club hosted a Rotary Friendship House at World Expo '88 (Brisbane) of which he was treasurer. He was on a FAIM team to Araimiri in PNG in 1978 where he caught 2 types of malaria (Vivax and Falciparum). Also newsletter editor/publisher at South Brisbane and Southport clubs for several years. He is a Paul Harris Fellow and a member of the Rotary Foundation Bequest Society. He is also a Major Supporter of the Rotary District 9640 Malaria Vaccine Project developing a vaccine against malaria at Griffiths University. Vince enjoys flying (C182), golf and shooting.

David Reynolds started working for the Rural Bank of NSW (later State bank/Colonial State) in 1965 at Murwillumbah branch.  He worked in 10 different branches over a 32 year period.  In 1997, when Manager of Ballina branch, David left the bank to purchase a Mortgage Choice franchise on the Gold Coast.  David has always focused on "customer service" and in 1999 was awarded the QLD Franchisee of the Year.  After 13.5 years, David sold the business and bought a caravan... (Say no more!)

 

After joining Rotary in 2008, David filled a number of positions on the Rotary Board including Treasurer for 2.5 years to June 2021.

David's hobbies include golf and bushwalking - and chasing the grandkids! 

 

Since joining Rotary, David has enjoyed being involved in the various club fundraisers (including the Barefoot Bowls event).  David values the new friendships he has formed and is looking forward to his year as Club President in 2022/23.

Ian’s 30 plus years’ experience in the Australian marine industry has seen him manage some of Australia’s leading marine brokerage companies including Jackson Brothers Marine QLD, Geoff Lovett International and more recently as the Managing Director of Swan Super Lines.

 

Ian has a military background, serving nine years in the Australian Army with specialist training in water transport. While in water transport, Ian was seconded to the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions (ANARE) where he was involved in five tours to the Antarctic. Other tours have included the South Pacific, Fiji, Samoa, Norfolk Island as well as training along the extensive Australian coast line. His training afforded him formal qualifications in numerous disciplines including: army diver (qualified scuba diver), amphibious craft operator, landing craft crew and jet barge operator.

 

On leaving the Army, Ian started a diving recovery company and taught water skiing on Queensland’s Gold Coast. It was during this time that he began to establish his many contacts within the boating fraternity. Soon he was approached by Jackson Brothers at Runaway Bay for sales and boat testing.

 

This evolved over the next 15 years to positions with McLaren Lovett at Marina Mirage and then to Geoff Lovett International as Sales Manager for 13 years and parted with Geoff on good terms as he sought to carve his own destiny in the boat brokerage market.

 

In 2008 Ian set-up Swan Super Lines and hasn’t looked back since as it has grown to be one of the most trusted and respected boat brokerage firms in the country. 

 

Ian’s expertise covers a broad range of marine industry specialities including: new vessel sales; brokerage; dealerships management; charter; marine filming and Australian and Boat show management. Ian’s solution focussed approach provides expert advice on deliveries and crew placements. He provides instruction in boat handling with practical ‘hands on’ training.

 

Ian is a foundation member of the Gold Coast Marine Industry and a past secretary of this association.

 

Ian is a keen boater who proposed to his wife on a boat charter and was married on a motor yacht. He brings this passion for the marine industry and a wealth of knowledge, experience and contacts.

John Westera started Westera Partners from humble beginnings working from his Gold Coast home in 1981. Gradually the company grew as John’s reputation for excellence and practical solutions spread.

As demand increased, his vision of building a company that put people ahead of profits has stood the test of time.  John was able to develop and attract more and more quality staff to his team with Brett Arthur and Anthony Hockings joining his team which expanded to Brisbane in 1998.   The firm became increasingly successful as John’s core values of “people first” continued to be employed.  Sustained growth led to the formation of Westera Partners Pty Ltd in 2001 to broaden ownership and provide a better foundation for long term growth and allow John to retire.
