PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
![]() |
First up let me congratulate our immediate past president, Ray McCabbin. Ray did a terrific job of guiding the club over the past year.
Our changeover dinner was held at the Southport Yacht club with circa 25 club members, family/partners and VIP’s. A total of 61 attendees. Special thanks to Letitia and all her helpers. I received wonderful feedback, and I appreciate the warm welcome extended to my family. April as Master of Ceremonies and Suki as the Sergeant were both outstanding. Our special guests were certainly very welcome.
Congratulations to Letitia as Rotarian of the Year. A just award for the mountain of work Letitia undertakes every year. Chris Lewis’s toast to Rotary was one of the best I have ever heard. Many thanks to Ray’s family for the outstanding photo booth. It contributed to the success of the night. Not a lot of Karaoke action, possibly people were a little shy.
Andy Rajapakse, as our District Governor representative, did a wonderful job, particularly his induction of our two new members, Alanah Day and Rick Palmer.
We are very pleased to welcome back our intrepid PNG troupe. The feedback has been positive, with some reservations. I understand Andrew Duff and Ian Swan have had successful discussions with the tour operator. I will leave it for Andrew and Swanny to provide details.
We have a busy year ahead. In addition to our annual contribution to our community, this year we have an international exchange student from Spain, Didac Mestre. I have met Didac on several occasions and he will prove to be an outstanding exchange student. We are also sponsoring Stephania Goldschmied in Germany/Switzerland. Stephania’s parents, Amy and Jason, are great people and are hosting Didac for his initial 3 months. I would encourage all members to consider taking Didac on outings over the course of his stay. Please consider buying an extra ticket for a concert or football game and/or taking him on a family outgoing.
The Club will continue the planning for an upgrade to the Arundle Hills Riding for the Disabled stables. John Westera is scoping out the works required.
Vince has taken on the role of Club Bulletin editor. I encourage all club members to provide material, including appropriate jokes/cartoons, for inclusion in the bulletin.
Looking forward to seeing you all this Friday.
Laurie
