Text Box: PRESIDENT’S  MESSAGE
Welcome to our second Club Bulletin.  Our editor, Vince, has called for suggestions as to the name of our bulletin.  The name should have relevance to the Club’s location and our values.  Please forward all suggestions to Vince.

We are going into a very busy Rotary period.  This Thursday and Friday we will host the remarkable Nova Peris.  Nova has an outstanding life story and is our special guest at this year’s Kokoda Memorial Service at Cascade Gardens.  We are also honored to host a dinner for Nova on Thursday night, and she is our guest speaker this Friday.
George and his team should be enormously proud of the amazing work they have done to bring the Service together.  I urge all members and their guests to attend the Service this Friday.
Baz and his Peace Pole team are putting in an enormous effort to ensure the success of the Peace Pole dedication.  Together with the Kokoda Memorial Service, the Peace Pole dedication event will be a highlight of our Rotary year.
I wish to congratulate Jenny on behalf of the Club.  Over the past two weeks Jenny has:

< >Assisted in securing a mobility scooter for a deserving member of our community.  Dawn Crichlow, our very supportive honorary member, and Elite Mobility Scooters were the driving forces behind the provision of the scooter; andSecured the services of the “The Blenders” a community choir for the Peace Pole dedication on World Peace Day.Our last Club meeting at 3 Sixty Restaurant in Labrador was a success.  Thank you to all those who assisted in arranging the alternative venue.  Special thanks to Andrew who covered the cost of the chili egg bandits.  Restitution coffees are in order.

Text Box: A wonderful true story from Jenny:

It’s all about the “connections” …. Recently I was contacted in my role as a Rotarian, by a local family in Labrador “did I know if there was somewhere an elderly disabled man, who’d recently come home from rehab at GC Uni Hospital, could access a mobility scooter?”.

Fortunately, one of our Club contacts is retired GC Councillor, Dawn Crichlow OAM, who in her retirement, has become a collector of scooters, wheelchairs, wheely walkers etc for the community. Her only criteria is that the recipients be genuine pensioners.  Dawn put me in touch with Ian Watt of “Elite Mobility Scooters” in Southport where she had a scooter in storage.
Today, after some planning, I met Andre Tandjung at Elite, to formalise the handover of the scooter. Ian was wonderful in patiently and diligently explaining the operation of the scooter and battery. Andre did a “test drive” in the Elite car park .  Ian is arranging delivery of the scooter and paperwork for the registration to take place next Monday.

I thought a big red bow was in order for the occasion !! This set of wheels for Andre will give him freedom and accessibility that will transform his world - from the smile on his face it may as well have been a Ferrari !!!

It’s so good being able to make the “connections” in our community to help add some joy to peoples’ lives. Very big thank you to Dawn, Ian and the Rotary Club of Broadwater Southport.
