Anton Crous and Peter Osborne are lifelong mates who have dedicated their careers to making a difference in people’s lives.

They attended university together in South Africa in the 1990s, and then their careers and lives took them to different parts of the world for more than two decades. In 2017 they found themselves working for the same practice in Queensland. It was there that they realised their combined experience, specialised skill sets and shared values and philosophy were the foundation for a practice of their own. Ability Prosthetics and Orthotics was born.

Their greatest reward: Playing a part in transforming someone’s life. In fact, it’s our sole motivation for doing what we do – designing, manufacturing and fitting prosthetics and orthotics that give our patients the freedom to live with more movement, support and confidence.

imageAnton specialises in:
  • Socket design including Ischial-containment sockets and hybrid versions of this design philosophy, and adjustable sockets (RevoFit system) for lower and upper extremities.
  • Gait analysis using the innovative Tekscan Foot Function Analysis system to diagnose a variety of foot function abnormalities that can lead to lower limb foot problems like plantar fasciitis.
  • Diabetic ulcer offloading effectiveness using in-shoe pressure sensors.
  • Amfit CAD-CAM foot orthotics and shoe modifications to improve foot function.
  • Anton is certified for all Micro-processor prosthetics for lower and upper extremities with a special interest in myoelectric arm prostheses.
Peter specialises in:image
  • Socket design, and especially the lower limb, with an emphasis on traditionally crafted prostheses with side steels and leather work.
  • Body-powered extremity prostheses including both below and above elbow solutions. He enjoys the ease with which a patient can adapt and use the prosthesis to achieve a positive outcome.
  • Lower limb callipers are Peter’s passion. He is well qualified in the manufacture and fitting of Hip-Knee-Ankle-Foot orthoses, including thermo plastic or laminated appliances.
  • Orthotics for children is another key area of expertise for Peter. In South Africa he worked with leaders in the field of paediatric Ankle-Foot Orthotics.
